A little more than 12 hours after their upset of Cape Central in overtime on Friday, many members of the Poplar Bluff Mules High School football team could be found giving back to the next generation as another season of the Poplar Bluff Youth Football League kicked off.

For the next several Saturdays, 11 a.m. at the Poplar Bluff Junior High School will be kickoff for the annual PBYFL.

Four teams hit the field for 40 minutes of action that featured a touchdown on the first play in one of the games.

Mules senior Darius Graham was one of the players helping, the morning after he had 10 catches for 153 yards and a score in the win over the Tigers.

“It’s just fun being out here and being able to see the little kids compete,” he said. “I didn’t do this as a kid so it’s fun seeing out here, having fun, just playing football.”

Graham said he remembers of days of his youth when the older players would be at games or camps and he knew what was on his mind.

“It was always fun trying to show out in front of the older kids,” he said. “Us being the older kids now, I’m hoping they feel the same way now just being out here trying to impress, doing their best and having fun.”

Games will be each Saturday through Oct. 14.
