NEELYVILLE – The Neelyville softball team continued their hot stretch as the postseason looms closer winning their sixth in a row with a 10-0 shutout win over Doniphan.

The Tigers couldn't ask for a better pitching performance from Dixie Cloud as she allowed only two hits, both of which came in the first inning, and allowed only one other baserunner via a walk in the second. From there, Cloud retired 13 straight and recorded 10 strikeouts for the game.

"Dixie had her stuff (Wednesday)," Neelyville coach Cindy Siebert said. "When she can locate her pitches, she's hard to get a hit off of."

Doniphan was still able to keep up with the hard-hitting Tigers up until Donettes starter Kylie Hawkins gave up three runs in the third.

"We just didn't bring our bats," Doniphan coach Brad Hagood said. "We knew going in that Neelyville is a good hitting team and we needed to get some runs in order to have a chance. Defensively, I thought we played solid in the first five innings, but gave them some extra outs to work with."

Leah Million put the Tigers (25-3) on the board with an RBI single and she got to jog home with Cloud crushing a two-run home run to right-center.

Neelyville added a run in the fourth with Jade Crosswhite hitting an RBI groundout and two more in the fifth on a two-run double by Bridget Million to put the Donettes (10-9) down 6-0.

The Tigers had their eyes set on ending the game early in the sixth and Crosswhite got it started with a walk and eventually came around to score stealing home to make it 7-0. After Cloud got on via a walk, September Preslar came in as a courtesy runner and advanced to third on an RBI single by Reese Dobbins that made it 8-0.

With Parker Ernst at the plate with two outs and runners on the corners, Preslar stole home on a successful double steal attempt and Ernst knocked in Dobbins on a double to end the ballgame.

"Up and down the lineup I felt like we were seeing the ball well," Siebert said. "Once we string some hits together, we get things going."

Both teams will have district tournaments coming up next week with Neelyville playing in the Class 1 District 1 Tournament at Van Buren while Doniphan will be playing in the Class 3 District 1 Tournament in St. Louis.

"The girls are already excited and ready to go for districts," Siebert said.
