KENNETT, Mo. - After four competitions in four days last week and a three day break from play, the Kennett-Holcomb tennis team returned to play against Dexter on Tuesday, Sep 10.

After an 8-1 victory over Dexter, Janet Hilburn’s team is now 7-0-1 on the season.

Claire Bean and Handley McAtee helped lead the charge against the Bearcats with a 8-0 victory over Febe Worley and Puja Maisuria in the doubles round.

They both also secured victories in singles play as Bean defeated Worley 8-0 and McAtee won over Dexter’s Sophia James. McAtee also went 8-0 against James.

Worley was back at Kennett’s tennis courts after securing second place at the Kennett Invitational Tournament.

Bean said she was able to watch Worley at the Tournament last Friday to prepare her for this matchup today.

“I kind of knew in my head what to do,” Bean said. “I just needed to be consistent and hit my shots. Watching her on Friday really helped. It was a really close match and she was really consistent with Olivia [Rebstock] in the championship match, but I was able to learn from some of her mistakes and it helped me see how I can approach today.”

Kennett went on to sweep through the doubles matches as Rebstock and Emory Kamper won over James and Kinley Kennedy from Dexter, 8-2. Jady Quinn and Lydia Teeter also took an 8-3 victory over Dexter’s duo of Serina Churchill and Avery Medley.

Along with Bean and McAtee, Rebstock also secured an 8-0 victory against Maisuria in singles play.

Kennedy from Dexter went on to win 8-1 to give the Bearcats their only win of the day in the number four singles match. Kamper and Teeter both won their singles matches to secure the varsity team seventh win on the season.

Kamper took an 8-2 victory over Churchill from Dexter, while Teeter beat Jalynn Medley 8-4.

Dexter and Kennett will meet again later this month.

Next, Hilburn’s tennis squad will travel to Sikeston for the Sikeston Individual tournament on Thursday, Sep. 12.

The next day, the team will be in Cape Girardeau to play in the Cape Central Doubles Tournament.
