KENNETT, Mo. - Janet Hilburn and her tennis players were back in action after winning the opening Cape Tourney to start their season.

Kennett-Holcomb tennis faced off against Notre Dame on Tuesday, Sep. 3.

The team walked away victorious with a 9-0 sweep over the Bulldogs.

This makes the Kennett-Holcomb tennis team 4-01 on the season, while they are also 2-0 over Notre Dame to start the year.

The competition started with doubles play, as Kennett-Holcomb won all three of the doubles matches.

The pairing of Claire Bean and Handley McAtee finished 8-0 against Notre Dame’s Mary Cox and Caroline Galati.

“I feel like we were pretty prepared,” McAtee said. “We kind of knew what to expect from Notre Dame, they always put up a good fight. We had good points and good rally’s and found a way to close them out.”

Along with the Bean and McAtee duo, Olivia Rebstock and Emory Kamper were able to complete a shutout against the Notre Dame pairing of Eloisa West and Anna Galati.

Jady Quinn and Lydia Teeter finished out the doubles matches with a win over Harper Raffety and Madelyn McDowell.

The team completed the sweep by winning on each court in singles play.

Bean and McAtee both beat their opponents 8-0. Rebstock and Kamper walked away with 8-1 victories in singles play. Quinn of Kennett beat Raffety of Notre Dame, winning 8-3. The last match of the day was the closest between Teeter of Kennett and Notre Dame’s McDowell. Teeter was able to pull out a win with a 8-6 victory to complete the sweep.

After facing them only a few days ago at the Cape Tourney, Bean said they didn’t want to change too much the second time around.

“We had a really good result on Friday,” Bean said. “Since we knew what to expect, just doing what we did on Friday we were hoping to get the same results.”

The team has a match every day this week, finishing with the Kennett Invitational on Friday, Sep. 6.

They want to keep the ball rolling and continue picking up wins in the early part of this season.

“We’re just gonna keep it how we’ve been playing,” McAtee said. “Just keep things steady and calm. It’s worked so far so we are gonna keep doing what we’re doing.”
