KENNETT, Mo. - Kennett volleyball picked up their second win of the season after beating Charleston 3 sets to 0.

Serving aces were the name of the game for the Indians.

Junior Kynsly McCaig led the team from the service line as she recorded 23 total serves for the night. She went on a 21 point service run in the second set to give the 25-2 set win.

For McCaig, her focus was just staying calm at the service line.

“I play a lot of sports so I know not to let the pressure get to me,” McCaig said. “I know not to put too many things on my mind. Just serve like I do at practice and if you stay with the same routine, you will get it over.”

Along with McCaig, Ella Gardner went on a seven point run in the first set to get things rolling for the Indians. She helped lead the team to a 25-7 set win to give Kennett a 1-0 edge over Charleston.

In the third set, while leading 2-0, Kennett was able to get more of their hitters involved.

Olivia Raspberry concluded the match with six kills and Tayja Carter followed right behind with 5 total kills on the evening. Kennett won the third set 25-6 to complete the sweep over Charleston.

They are now 2-0 after their first week of play.

Head coach Kristy Green was pleased with her players this week and how they performed on the night.

“It was a SEMO conference win and it’s always good to get a conference win early in the season,” Green said. “We served a lot to not, but we were consistent overall. I always tell them if we serve well, we’ll play well. I feel like we all served pretty well across the board.”

After taking their first two victories this week, Kennett will start next week on the road at Oran High School on Monday, Sep. 9.

Following their match at Oran, the Indians will go back to defend their home court against Doniphan on Tuesday, Sep. 10. On Thursday, Sep. 12 the team will host Malden to conclude the week.

Green hopes her players can keep up the play they have displayed in this first week of play.

“We’ll play some pretty good teams,” Green said. “We preached urgency all summer and it’s nice to see they have it. It’s exciting.”
