Jackson Tribe Senior Legion defeated Cape Ford and Sons Post 63 7-5 on Wednesday at Jackson Stadium. After Jackson opened up a 6-0 lead, Cape nearly erased the deficit by outscoring Tribe 5-1 the rest of the way.

Jackson wasted little time putting runs on the board, scoring four in the first inning. Blake Gaebler got things going with an RBI double and an error by Cape second baseman Lucas Salazar scored another run.

Cape pitcher Brandon Plott walked in a run before Ben Dambach of the Tribe scored an RBI via a sacrifice fly.

Jackson head coach Mark Lewis said his teams’ early at-bats were good but they need to do better towards the end of games.

“I liked our offense early, I thought we did some good things. They gave us some walks, we took advantage of it and then they [Cape] flipped the script and we gave them some walks and they took advantage,” Lewis said. “So it was kind of like a tale of two games. I'd like to see us have a little better at-bats late in the game, but it was a good win.”

Jackson added two more in the second on a wild pitch and an RBI single from Braydon Homan, Gaebler added one more RBI to his night in the third.

The third was also when the scoring started for Cape, Ben Plott singled scoring two and G Skelton brought in a run with a sacrifice fly. Connor Davidson singled to left for an RBI before TJ Klipfel stole home with Davidson caught in a run down.

The pitchers for both teams had rough games with both starters being pulled early. Salazar had the best day for Cape with just one earned run while Owen Tarry was awarded the save for Jackson.

Lewis said his pitchers had some walks they would like to have back but they did a good job limiting the damage.

“I thought both of them [Homan and Tarry] did fine. Homan came in with the bases loaded and nobody out and we were able to scratch and get out of that inning without too much damage, they got three,” Lewis said. “But when Owen came in, I think great Homan was getting a little tired, and Owen came and gave us a little juice to finish the night.”

Jackson will travel to take on the Gateway Bruins and St. Louis Nationals at a tournament in St. Louis this weekend.
