Back after a five-year hiatus, first-year twirling sponsor and coach Dallas Campbell is hosting a band auxiliary clinic this week for children in second to sixth grades. The clinic is teaching children baton twirling and flags routines, with a little bit of duck-duck-goose mixed in throughout the day.

“I've been twirling since I was two or three, and it means the world to me,” Campbell said. “It's what I could always do to escape reality, this and music. I never thought I would be on the other side of it teaching, actually, but it's awesome. It's a completely different world being in it and then being in charge of it.”

She hopes to get a baton in the hand of the next generation, and pass down her love for twirling. There are 45 kids registered for the clinic's first year back, coached by Campbell and every member of the Kennett High School and Middle School twirling and color guard team.

“I like to see all my girls have a passion for it just like I did,” Campbell said. “And it's crazy because I thought 'Wow, how could it affect me this much,' but it's impacted them just the same as it did me.”

Participants will conclude the clinic by performing a routine with their grade, individual routines, and a flags routine together. They will be performing to the fight song during Kennett's September 9th home game against Sikeston.

“We plan on hosting it again next year, so come one come all,” Campbell exclaimed.
