SIKESTON — Double-teamed, triple-teamed, and always the opposition's primary target – Jadis Jones didn't just overcome these challenges, he thrived under them. That's why he's now etched his name into Missouri High School Basketball History with the Gatorade Player of the Year Award.

This prestigious honor follows a season of undeniable dominance and leadership for the New Madrid County Central Eagles.

Night after night, Jones painted a picture of determination on the court. His stat sheet tells the story: 27.1 points, 12.2 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 3.3 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game. Those numbers are even more impressive when you consider the constant defensive schemes designed to stop him.

“[Jones] has dominated this game since he was a sophomore, doing it all while being doubled and triple-teamed," said NMCC coach Dontre Jenkins. “He was the other team's main focus every game and was still able to leave an impact.”

The 2023 and 2024 Missouri Basketball Coaches Association’s Class 3 Player of the Year, Jones’ impact extends beyond a stellar senior season. Over his high school career, he amassed an incredible 2,298 points and 1,106 rebounds, showcasing his consistent ability to excel. A two-sport standout, Jones initially committed to play football for Coastal Carolina, but his basketball brilliance has reopened the doors of opportunity.

While the awards and attention are well-deserved, Jenkins highlights the foundation of his success.

"He also was able to accomplish all the things he has done throughout his high school career while putting his team and teammates first,” Jenkins said. “I told him today that all those 5 a.m. workouts with me before school finally paid off.”

From CEOs and coaches to star athletes, Gatorade Player of the Year winners showcase the power of sport, touting an all-star group of alumni that includes LeBron James (2002-03 and 2001-02, St. Vincent – St. Mary High School, Ohio), Karl-Anthony Towns (2013-14 and 2012-13, St. Joseph High School, N.J.) and Jayson Tatum (2015-16, 2014-15 and 2013-14, Chaminade College Preparatory School, Mo.).

The president of his school’s student council, Jones has volunteered locally as a youth basketball and football coach as well as a referee. He has also donated his time to multiple community service initiatives on behalf of Life Changers Ministries.

“Jones has been the best player in Southeast Missouri since he was 14 years old,” said Kennett coach Fred Garmon. “He’s a different animal. A bad game for him is still 20 [points] and 10 [rebounds]—that’s how dangerous he is.”

Jones has maintained a weighted 3.39 GPA in the classroom.

With his chapter at NMCC complete, his future is filled with potential. His combination of work ethic, talent, and team-first mentality will undoubtedly make him a coveted addition to any collegiate basketball program.
